Dayton Travel Expo: Varieties of Travel

Once again, the popular Dayton Travel Talks, “Varieties of Travel” will be held this spring.

During the program, speakers will describe a wide spectrum of low cost or offbeat travel methods and little known destinations. Topics will include travelling in Cambodia, Cameroon and New Zealand, ways to pick a cheap vacation, and all sorts of tips.

Crowds love it. A new speaker every 15 minutes. Lots of door prizes. And it’s free!!

Tentative Schedule:

9:00 Introduction to program. Gifts and drawings.

9:15 BALI BEACHES: Speaker: Kimi Daniel of Lake Oswego — The island of Bali is famous for its lush beaches.

9:30 CAMBODIA/VIETNAM: Juanita Wiegel describes a recent extensive tour in Cambodia/Vietnam.

9:45 BARGE CYCLING: Galen McBee, Mcminnville — Ride a barge and/or cycle. Barge tour Holland and Belgium.

10:00 TEACH ENGLISH: Eric Francis, live from Colombia, will offer tips on working in foreign countries.

10:15 TRAVEL BARGAINS: Ray Vanblaricom shows us how to research for the best travel deals.

10:30 DIFFERENT WAYS TO SEE THE WORLD: Nancy Hoeker, Earthwatch veteran, tells of her experiences.

10:45 YAMHILL COUNTY DISNEYLAND: Jessica and Alisha Payne (age 12) –Disneyland trip and what makes Yamhill County great.

11:00 NEW ZEALAND: Ken/Peggy Hoecker, Albany — 4-weeks New Zealand exploring/eating/life.

11:15 RUSSIA: Gail and Jerry Hanowell, McMinnville — Traveling Russia—Moscow-Kremlin-St Petersburg—Ukraine.

11:30 CAMEROON: Pavla Zakova-Laney, Peace Corp volunteer in Cameroon and started her own non-profit.

11:45 TRAVEL CLUBS: John Francis — Travel clubs: Save money and meet real people/sights.

The annual program was started six years ago by John Francis and Caye Poe and has continued since then. It gained the support of the Dayton Community Development Association three years ago.
