Recently, most of Dayton's downtown-area commercial property owners met with representatives of the Oregon Main Street Program as well as the State Historic Preservation Office. The meetings were facilitated by the Dayton Community Development Association (DCDA). The purpose of the meetings are to help give advice and assistance to property owners regarding how to maximize the value and appeal of these (mostly historic) properties. These experts will be reporting back to our community and the property owners regarding the use of time-tested techniques intended to bring out the best aesthetic and historical aspects of the properties' facades. Historically, small towns that have successfully undergone significant economic revitalization of their downtown area have successfully instituted building facade improvement programs.
