Dayton Fire District Barbecue & Old Timers Weekend

Celebrate old friendships and new at the Dayton Fire District’s annual Old Timers Weekend Chicken Barbecue. Held on the last Sunday of July in Dayton’s Courthouse Square Park, this annual celebration began in 1934 as a town potluck and has continued through the years to become a time of celebration and family and class reunions.

This year the festivities will begin on Friday, July 25th as part of the Friday Nights downtown events, with a Cruise In on Fourth Street from 5-9 pm, vendors in the park, a bike decorating event from 4-5:30 pm, followed by the Community Parade at 6 pm, the Senior Court Coronation at 7 p.m., and live music by Bill Lasslett’s band starting after the Coronation until 9 p.m.
On Saturday, family and class reunions occur in the Park, and on Sunday, enjoy the Fire District’s Annual Chicken BBQ. This Sunday fundraiser is the Fire District’s main fundraiser to help support Fire Prevention Education. Keep the last Sunday in July open and come and enjoy a wonderful chicken dinner with all the fix ins’.
National Night Out 2014

Spend a summer evening outside, meet your neighbors, and have a festive time at this celebration – “a going-away party for crime and drugs” - sponsored by Community Partners of the Dayton Together Coalition. Crime and drug prevention information will be available. Enjoy a free meal, local entertainment and community spirit! Held from 5-7 p.m. in Courthouse Square Park.
Experience the small town charm and neighborly atmosphere of Dayton at this annual city event held in downtown’s Courthouse Square Park. Family fun and good food abound. Enjoy a Scarecrow Contest, when scarecrows created by local civic groups, businesses, families and individuals will be on display in downtown Dayton. Vote for your favorite; the winners receive prizes.
Dayton Fiesta Run
The fun-filled annual Dayton Fiesta Run, held during the Harvest Festival, includes a 5k and 10k as well as a 1 mile kids run. Walk or run and enjoy the post-race party at Seufert Winery, and the Harvest Festival occurring the same day in downtown Dayton. Explore pumpkin patches, hay mazes, hay rides and more in the Dayton area during October at Sweet Oregon Berry Company farm stand, located on the Hwy 18 bypass just off Hwy 99. A scenic drive out to Heiser Farms on Grand Island will additionally reward the serious pumpkin enthusiast with pumpkin cannons, corn & hay maze, miniature train rides, and fire engine rides.

Make a trip out to the Dayton area during Thanksgiving Weekend, an Oregon wine country tradition when more than 150 Willamette Valley winemakers throw open their doors to visitors and pour special vintages, conduct exclusive tastings and lead behind-the-scenes tours. It’s a great time to visit some of the smaller boutique wineries that are rarely open to the public, and to enjoy live music and specialty food pairings during tastings. The Willamette Valley Winery Association offers a listing of participating wineries.
Old Fashioned Christmas
Celebrate an old fashioned Christmas in Dayton with a Breakfast with Santa and Holiday Bazaar in the Dayton Community Center. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Courthouse Square Park follows, featuring holiday music songs and cocoa and coffee refreshments.
Easter Egg Hunt

The Dayton High School FFA hosts the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, just prior to Easter. Come on down, bring the family to this event and watch the fun! The hunt in Courthouse Square Park starts at 10:00 a.m. and is for third graders and younger. The hunt behind the Dayton Grade School starts at 10:30 a.m. and is for fourth to sixth graders.
