Farmland Geometry Comes to Downtown Dayton

August 8, 2013 By admin

Farmland GeometryIf you take a stroll downtown on Ferry Street this summer, you’ll notice something new & colorful in the windows of the former Putt’s Market! Farmland Geometry is an art display facilitated by the DCDA with art pieces generously loaned by artists Richard Thompson, Sandy Till, Kathleen Bennett, Bonnie Russell, and Gloria Richardson. Building owner Bill Stoller generously loaned the use of the window space. It’s a great way to spruce up downtown while showcasing our talented local artists.

New Interpretive Marker Unveiled

July 21, 2013 By admin

Historical Marker Dedication
David Lewis, Oregon Heritage Commission Chair and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Historian speaks about the history of Fort Yamhill Blockhouse and Yamhill Reservation.

A new interpretive marker was recently installed at Dayton’s historic Courthouse Square Park to honor Dayton’s founding father, General Joel Palmer, and to depict the Fort Yamhill Blockhouse’s relocation journey. General Palmer donated the land for Courthouse Square Park, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To celebrate him, the blockhouse was moved from Grande Ronde. The Fort Yamhill Blockhouse has been in Courthouse Square Park for over 100 years.

This project was supported in part by a grant from the Oregon Heritage Commission and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The City of Dayton provided matching funds for the grant.
